CKSC Owns Bragging Rights as Best Juniors Team After Tabbing Seaoil NBTC Crown


JV Gallego scored 16 of his game-high 32 points in the final period as Chiang Kai Shek College pulled off an 88-80 victory over National University-A on Sunday to capture the Division 1 crown of the Seaoil NBTC National High School Championship at the Ynares Sports Arena.

By topping the meet that featured 12 junior teams from across the region, the Blue Dragons easily stamped their class as one of the top high school basketball programs in the country today.

Gallego, a 15-year-old third-year shooting guard, won the Most Outstanding Player award after pouring in 11 straight points in the pivotal fourth that allowed the Blue Dragons to take an 80-78 lead after trailing early on, 69-74.

Mohammed Salim finished with 21 points including a lay-up with 58.5 seconds to play that all but sealed the championship for CKSC.

“Mahirap ito dahil nandito ang best teams sa Pilipinas at kalaban pa namin ang UAAP champion,” said Chiang Kai Shek College coach Goldwin Monteverde afterwards.

Filipino Math Superstars in Focus


Five of the so-called “Filipino Math Superstars” were given recognition in the awarding ceremony last March 6, 2014 (Thursday) at Saint Jude Catholic School. Three of these five students, namely: Trisha Danielle Sia of 5-B, Timothy Bryan Wong of 7-1, Andrew Brandon Wong of III-1 got silver medals, and two of them got bronze medals. They were Clyde Wesley Ang and Terence Brian Tsai of Grade 9-1 .

These students made our school proud again by bringing honor in the battle of wits during the second round of the 3rd International Assessment for Schools (IMAS) held last February 22, 2014. Sixty- three medalists of the 3rd IMAS were the last few math stars out of more than 1,500 participants who sat in the first round and about 192 who qualified in the second round.

CKSC Produces CMLI Victors


Last February 21 to 22, 2014, the Grade School English Department sent selected students to compete in the annual CMLI (Children’s Museum and Library Incorporated) contests. This was held in the Holy Family School of Quezon City. The CKSC representatives were trained by Mrs. Shirley G. Bolodo and Miss Shirwil L. Gangan.

Students from different schools graced the said event in various categories like Essay and Poetry Writing, Extemporaneous Speaking, Story Telling, and Poster Making.

In line with the celebration of CAYAW or Children and Youth Achievement Week, this year’s theme is “Bonifacio @ 150”. CAYAW aims to develop and showcase the different talents of today’s youth.

Below is the list of victors who excelled in their chosen categories:

CKSC Regains Global Dimensions Olympiad Title


Out of the seven participating high schools in the National Capital Region, the high school students of Chiang Kai Shek College bagged the overall championship during the 14th Global Dimensions Olympiad Finals held in Southville Foreign University last February 8, 2014. The victorious team was composed of Chinarah Tayamora, Renzo Tan, Kathleen Ngo of IV-1 and Ryan Martin Uy of IV-3. They won full scholarship and Php 20,000 cash. The said event was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Salcedo and the Southville Foreign University.

The other IV-1 students who made to the finals but were not able to join the stage for competition because of its limited space were Nicholas Ang, Gabriel Alquino, Justine Anjelica Rodriguez, Justine Kim Hong, Hans Jarett Ong and Adrian Fomaran. The contestants were trained by Mrs. Judith P. Peñaflor and Dr. Raymond Q. Datuon was also present to witness the said momentous event.

Scout Basketball Team Wins Historic 9-Peat BP Cup


Yes! It’s a 9-Peat crown for the CKSC scout basketball team at the annual Baden Powell Cup basketball tournament. Known as the "Blazing Dragons" in the school and community circle, the scout team earned its ninth straight title during the 11th Baden Powell Cup tournament by toppling Philadelphia High School, 103-39, in the final game of the competition. The title run started way back in 2006 with one of the assistant coaches, Michael Marc Chua, still playing at that time.

Ryan Remained On Top!


Ryan Jericho Sy, a Grade 6-A student of Chiang Kai Shek College, maintained his place as Top 2 in the Individual Category of the 2014 Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge. He received medals and certificates from the two rounds of this series of competitions.

The Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd conducted an elimination test at Saint Jude Catholic School last January 16, 2014 (Thursday). The students from NCR private schools: AREA 1- Manila, Makati, Pasay; AREA 2- Quezon City, Pasig, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Marikina; AREA 3- Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Taguig, Las Piñas; AREA 4- Caloocan, Valenzuela, Malabon, Navotas who met the cut off scores per level took another written contest, the Individual Finals at San Francisco High School held last January 25, 2014 (Saturday). From these students who took the written individual finals, the contest organizers chose the top 10 students per level. The top 10 students according to the rank of their scores were awarded at Makati Hope Christian School last February 5, 2014 (Wednesday) as Sectoral Finals. In this round, Ryan Jericho Sy of 6-A received a silver medal and a certificate. All the top 10 students received certificate but only the first, second, and third got medals. When all the qualified participating schools, both from private and public schools, were again ranked for the Regional level,  Ryan Jericho Sy of 6-A remained in the Second place. He was awarded a silver medal and a certificate at DepEd Division Office in Pasig City last February 15, 2014 (Saturday). He is under the tutelage of a hardworking teacher, Mrs. Jennifer C. Mislang.

Ryan’s determination, passion in the subject, and perseverance made him to be on top.

CKSC Grade School Math Teams Made It Again!


The Chiang Kai Shek College Grade School Math teams made it again in the 2014 Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge- REGIONAL FINALS last February 15, 2014 (Saturday) held at DepEd Division Office in Pasig City.

The Regional Finals of this series of competitions was sponsored by the Metrobank, the Department of Education and the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines.  Different schools, both from private and public sectors, competed and met the cut off score per level.

 In the team category: out of 17 schools, the Grade 1 team, composed of Shawn Pierce Go of 2-E, Riyen Bernice Ang of 2-D, and Prince Matthew Sy of 2-A, that vied against 16 schools, and the Grade 3 team, composed of Patricia Angelica P. Tan of 4-A, Richelle Jasmine L. Sy of 4-C, and Carlos Miguel Legaspi, Jr. of 4-F, that competed against 22 schools, both made it to the 2nd Place and received trophies, silver medals, and certificates.

Trisha Danielle Sia of 5-B, Wolverix Skyler F. Yu of 5-D, and Johannes Nathan Hong of 5-D were the Grade 4 team that competed against 22 schools and won 3rd Place. They received a trophy, medals, and certificates, while the Grade 5 team won First place. They received a trophy, gold medals, and certificates. This team was composed of Ryan Jericho Sy of 6-A, Jhervey Edric Cheng of 6-A and Tiffany Huang of 6-B.

 In the individual category, the following students made it to the top 10: Riyen Bernice Ang of 2-D was top 7, Patricia Angelica Tan of 4-A was top 6, Trisha Danielle Sia of 5-B was top 4 and Ryan Jericho Sy of 6-A was top 2. These students were discovered to have extraordinary mathematics skills which were enhanced by the following trainers: Mrs. Merle D. Sondia for Grade 1, Mrs. Catherine E. Alvarez for Grades 3 and 4, and Mrs. Jennifer C. Mislang for Grade 5.

On January 30 of this year, the teams also did well during the MTAP-Math Challenge Division Level Competition held at St. Paul College Makati. Grade 1 team, composed of Riyen Bernice Ang, Shawn Pierce Go, and Prince Mathew Sy won 3rd Place. The grade 4 team of Trisha Daniel Sia, Johannes Nathan Hong, and Wolverix Skyler Yu also bagged 3rd Place. The grade 5 team of Ryan Jericho Sy, Tiffany Huang, and Jhervey Edric Cheng took 2nd Place.

Though these students experienced hardship in balancing their time for their academic and non-academic tasks, everything turned great because of their much effort and right character.
