CKS High School Basketball Teams Win MMBL titles


Chiang Kai Shek College (CKSC) routed NCAA champion San Beda-A, 101-76, on Sunday to retain the Metro Manila Basketball League (MMBL) Division 1 crown at the San Beda gym. The Blue Dragons successfully defended its MMBL crown in trouncing the Red Cubs before heading to the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) League where they will defend the national crown. CKSC and San Beda already qualified for the NBTC League where they will battle against winners of the regional tournaments.

In the Division 1 battle-for-third, Hope Christian High School won via walkover against Ateneo-B. San Beda-B downed National University-A, 85-76, to win the Division 2 crown while Colegio San Benildo-Rizal beat Manila Patriotic School, 85-81, for the Division 3 title. La Salle College-Antipolo won over NU-B, 77-63, in the Division 4 championship.

In another development, the training team of the CKS Scout Blazing Dragons, also known as the Futures Team, joined more than 350 budding basketball players and enthusiasts during the Jr. NBA Open Clinic presented by Alaska last January 25 at the British School Manila in Taguig City. The event gave them a glimpse of how to learn basketball skills, the NBA-way. It was also an opportunity for the CKS students to foster goodwill and camaraderie with students from schools in the National Capital Region and nearby provinces.

 

CKS Students Top India Math, Eye Level Math, and Heroes Quiz Competitions


Again and again, CKS College grade school and high school students showed exemplary performance in local and international competitions.
 
Terence Brian Tsai bagged the individual gold medal during the 6th International Young Mathematicians’ Convention (IYMC) held in Lucknow, India last December 2 to 5, 2014. He also won the gold medal in the team contest, and bronze medals in the relay round and Mathematics quiz. The IYMC was participated in by 178 teams in the junior level from South Africa, Thailand, Qatar, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Indonesia, India, Iran, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines.
 
In another contest called the Eye Level Invitational Math Competition 2014, Trisha Danielle K. Sia won the Gold Award for grade 5 level while Hart Drexel Y. Ngie took the Bronze Award for grade 1 level.
 
CKSCian scouts Andrew Brandon L. Ong and Michael Benjamin C. Morco emerged as champions in the senior scout and boy scout divisions, respectively, of the 2nd Council-Wide Scout Heroes Quiz Bee sponsored by the Manila Council, Boy Scouts of the Philippines on August 9, 2014 at the Augusto Syjuco Scouting Center of Manila. The awards were finally presented during simple presentation rites last December 8 at St. Stephen's High School. As a side note, Andrew Ong also topped the same event in 2013, making him a back-to-back champion in the said competition.

Basketball Teams Emerged Victorious


For the fourth year in a row since 2011, the CKS College aspirants team emerged as Champion in the FCAAF Aspirants Basketball Tournament which ended last December 6, 2014. The team defeated MGC-New Life Christian Academy in the championship game.

 

 

 

In another tournament, the CKS College girls basketball team won 3rd Place in the 17-Under competitive division of the Women's Basketball League 2014. The team won over St. Bridget School during the game held at Xavier School last December 7.

CKSC Math Wizards Win International, Local Tilts


Two CKS students won honors in international and local Mathematics competition.

Patricia Angelica Tan (Gr. 5-A) won a gold medal in the individual category, a trophy for "Overall High Performance", and a bronze medal for being part of the Philippine team that won 2nd Runner-Up in the team competition during the Malaysia International Math Olympiad Competition (MIMO) last November 22-23, 2014. The MIMO Competition had 816 participants from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand.

Ryan Jericho Sy (Gr. 7-1) won the bronze medal in the "5th Annual Search for the Little Math Wizard" held last November 29 at the University of the Philippines Diliman. He was trained for the competition by Mrs. Jennifer C. Mislang.

CKS high school also emerged as Champion in the Sipnayan 2014: Ignite Your Mind Competition sponsored by the Ateneo de Manila University Mathematics Society last November 29, 2014. The team was composed of Andrew Brandon Ong, Clyde Wesley Ang, and Jan Kendrick Ong. In the same competition, Clyde Wesley Ang also emerged as top scorer in the individual category. Mrs. Armi Mogro trained them for the competition.

Wushu Artists Win Medals


Members of the CKS College grade school and high school Wushu team won medals and certificates of recognition in the recently-concluded 2014 Inter-School Youth Traditional Wushu Competition sponsored by the Chinese -Filipino Business Club, Incorporated last November 9 at the Lucky Chinatown Mall in Binondo, Manila. Coached by Vincent Sy, the winning students were Jerick Wong - White Crane Broadsword (Silver Medal) and White Crane Cudgel (Silver Medal), Angel Louie Hernandez - Praying Mantis Windmill (Gold Medal) and Praying Mantis Straight Sword (Bronze Medal), Shayne Tan - Yilu Quan for Male (Gold Medal), Audrey Shayne Tan - Erlu Quan for Female (Bronze Medal), Jacob Sy - Erlu Quan for Male (4th Place),  and Trisha Angeline Go - Yilu Quan for Female (4th Place).

High School Students Win Honor in Chess Competition


A group of CKS high school students won 3rd Runner-Up in the 2014 Chess Tournament organized by the Chinese-Filipino Business Club, in cooperation with the Eugene Torre Chess Foundation last November 8. Accompanied by Mr. Jelvin Ralph Sy, the team was composed of fourth year high school students Jim Kenneth Co, Prince Michael Ty, Ivan Christian Bonifacio, and Lon Christian Salazar. They received a trophy, medals, and certificates from Asia's first Grandmaster Eugene Torre and CFBC Vice President Gregorio Tanlimco.

Artist, Mathematician, Scout Honor CKS College With Awards Won


CKS College grade school student Carl Daineal Sy Tiu (Gr. 6-D) won the grade 6 art competition in the "Try Prayer. It Works! 2014 Creative Contest" organized by the Family Rosary Crusade. The contest had "Being About the Work of My Father" as its theme.

Another grade school student, Trisha Danielle Sia (Gr. 5-B), won a bronze medal in the 11th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO 2014) held at Bali, Indonesia from October 5 to 11, 2014.

High school achiever Andrew Brandon L. Ong (IV-1)was chosen as one of the national winners in the search for Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines for 2014. The annual search, now on its 25th year, was jointly organized by the Department of Education and the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, with Coca-Cola Export Corporation as its sponsor. His Excellency, Vice President Jejomar C. Binay, presented the awards and prizes to the ten winners last October 17 at the Philippine International Convention Center. Joining VP Binay during the presentation rites were Atty. Adel Tamano of Coca-Cola and Maximino Edralin, Jr. of the BSP. Abo, as he is fondly called, is the 27th CKSCian to win the coveted TOBS award since 1994.
