CKSC Students Take Centerstage

CKSC winnings never stop with its students receiving accolades in almost every competition they joined.

Grace Christian College (GCC) sponsored two competitions last October 19. The morning event was the 4th Interschool Chinese Calligraphy Contest where Jefferson Chua won 1st Place and Chelsy Jessamae Ng won merit award in Category B (1st and 2nd year students). Jefferson’s elder sister, Candy Joy Chua, also won 3rd Place in Category A (3rd and 4th year students). Held in the afternoon was the 3rd Chinese Character Creativity Contest where siblings Candy Joy Chua and Jefferson Chua took 1st Places in Categories A and B, respectively. Evelyn Annie Andojoyan also won merit award in Category B.

 The International Buddhist Progress Society of Fo Guang Shan Mabuhay Temple held an on-the-spot drawing contest. Trisha Huang won the special citation award for the junior division (11 to 12 year old category), while Candy Joy Chua took home the merit award for the high school division (13 to 15 year old category).

Last October 27, CKSC swept the championship titles in all three divisions during the final round of the Chinese Singing Contest sponsored by the Grand Family Association of the Philippines. Prior to this, the finalists were chosen during the preliminary round held a week before.

The three division champions were: Erika Chan, a second year high student, for the children’s division; Vincent Su of High School Batch 2011 for the youth division; and Nevin Claude Uy of FBAS Batch 2006 for the adult division. Other winning students from CKSC in the children’s division were Rica Arianna Nichole G. Uy (2nd Place), Zendrene B. Lim (3rd Place), Jillianne Paige T. Cua (Special Citation). FBAS student Mary Grace Khu also landed in 2nd Place for the youth division.

In the Chinese Calligraphy Contest also held on October 27 and sponsored by Manila Downtown YMCA Club, 7 CKSC students landed in the winners’ circle. For Group B which was competition for 1st and 2nd year high school students, Jefferson Chua won 3rd Prize. For Group C which was for grades 5 and 6 students, 4 of 5 winners were from CKSC, including Abigail Laurice Go (1st Prize), Claire Ong (3rd Prize), Darwin Alexander Co (4th Prize), and Tiffany Huang (5th Prize). For Group D which was competition among grades 3 and 4 students, winners were Trisha Danielle Sia (1st Prize) and Wayne Sedric Sy (3rd Prize). The winners won medals, certificates, and cash prizes.

In the Chinese Storytelling Contest sponsored by Manila Downtown YMCA Club last November 8, CKSC also won the top two prizes in the competition with Chloe Yamille S. Velasco emerging as Champion and Kathereen Kence W. Sy Suan as 1st runner-up.

Finally last November 10, the girls’ basketball team regained the juniors’ crown of the 44th Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA), sweeping Miriam College in two straight games of the finals held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex and Rizal Technological University. The last time the crown was won by the CKSC Lady Dragons was in 2007. The team was coached by Diana Sy, who was assisted by Angelina Fidellaga and Cristina dela Cruz.
