Another Harvest of Winners for CKSC

CKSC students continue bringing honor to their Alma Mater!

Math prodigy Clyde Wesley Ang notched a perfect score in the 2013 Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC), earning for himself the Peter O'Halloran certificate, an award given in honor of the AMC founder Peter O'Halloran.  Only five students from the Philippines achieved this enormously difficult feat.

Grade six student Timothy Bryan Wong was declared  Champion in the Whiz Kids ’13, conducted last September 18 by the National Teachers College in line with their 85th Founding Anniversary celebration. Nineteen public and private schools in Metro Manila joined the competition. A qualifying round was held in the morning and Timothy Wong got the highest score among the competitors. Ten qualifiers battled during the Final Round held in the afternoon. Timothy Bryan Wong emerged as Champion, winning a cash prize of five thousand pesos and medallion. A trophy was also awarded to the school and a cash prize of one thousand five hundred pesos was given to the coach.

 APSSAM–MAPESA–MAPPRESA held its annual celebration for Buwan ng Wika, with the theme “Wika Natin Ang Daang Matuwid,” last September 18 at the Philippine Academy of Sakya. Students from private elementary and high schools in Manila joined different contests. After a hiatus from joining the association, CKSC came back to its fold and this proved to be a rewarding experience for grade school student Trisha Danielle Sia, who bagged the 1st Prize in the Poster Making Contest. More than 40 promising student-artists joined this competition. The young prodigy of CKSC received a gold medal and a certificate, and also a trophy for the school.

Team CKSC, made up of John Benjamin Uy, Hans Jarett Ong, Chinarah Tayamora, and Renzo Roel Tan, settled for 2nd place in the 6th Grace Christian College Information Technology Inter-school Quiz Bee last September 13, 2013. They received plaque, certificates, a desktop speaker, and flash drives. Mrs. Arriane Cabreros and Mrs. Ma. Buena Delantar were their trainers. Topics included in the said contest were general information, Microsoft office application, digital Arts ad photography, programming, and trivia. The Grace IT Quiz Bee was not like any typical question-and-answer quiz bee. The participants must be knowledgeable and skillful in computers. Some of the items were on situational analyses, analogy, and applications like hands-on.   

The Obiena siblings struck again, this time in Malaysia when they competed in the 1st Asian School Track and Field Championship 2013 from September 17 to 24. Both specializing in pole vault, Ernest John Obiena won the silver medal with a record of 4.90m, while his younger sister, Emily Jean, took bronze with a jump of 3.10m, in the process tying the current Philippine women’s junior record.
