CKSC Students Victorious in Various Contests


Last December 6, 2013, Chiang Kai Shek College joined the 6th Metro Manila Science and Mathematics Quiz Bee held at Emilio Aguinaldo College, Manila. A total of ten schools within Metro Manila joined the contest. After ranking 2nd in the preliminary written test, our team was declared the champion in the final round, having answered most of the 40 Science questions.

Team CKSC was composed of Gabriel Sedrick Alkuino and Renzo Roel Tan. As champions, they received gold medals, a trophy for the school, and a cash prize of PhP5,000. The trainers were Mrs. Armi Mogro for Mathematics, Mrs. Venus Llantada for Chemistry), Mrs. Cynthia Yap for Physics, and Mrs. Cristina Monsanto for Biology.

In another development, CKSC’s prince of the swimming pool, Brandon Willis Sing, made waves by capturing 5 medals during the national finals of the Milo Little Olympics in Cebu City last November 29 to December 1. On his last year as a high school student, Brandon won 3 gold medals in the 100m Backstroke,  200m Backstroke, and 4x100m Medley Relay. He also bagged 2 silver medals in the 200m Individual Medley and 4x100m Freestyle Relay.

Also winning an award in yet another competition was Jack Calvin Chua, a grade six student, who won 2nd Prize in the “Our World, Our Future” Peace Poster Making Contest sponsored by the Lions Club International District 301-A1. For his artwork, he won a prize of PhP6,000.

St. Jude Catholic School organized a Chinese Character Pen Writing Contest last November 15 where grade school students Zhi Ying Cai and Trisha Danielle Sia got merit awards.

Celadon, the Chinese-Filipino organization of Ateneo de Manila University, organized an On-the-Spot Drawing Contest last December 7. Trisha Danielle K. Sia won 1st Prize in the grade school level, while Jessica Mae Qui was the 3rd Prize winner. Jefferson Chua won 2nd Prize in the high school level.

The trio of Candy Joy Chua, Lorraine Nicole Tan, and Ryanne Valerie Ong won 3rd Place in the "Beauty of Chinese Character" Poster Making Contest  sponsored by the Association of Chinese-Filipino Schools in the Philippines, Incorporated - Teachers' Club and the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office last November 23.

Kindergarten pupils also had their share of awards when they competed in the drawing contest sponsored by International Buddhist Progress Society of Fo Guang Shan Mabuhay Temple last October 19. Sasha Athena O. See from the Montessori class was the biggest winner in this tilt as she took the top plum dubbed the "Fo Guang Award". Jennifer Shan E. Ou, also from the Montessori class, won the special citation award, while Elycia Reese T. Wang, Gayle Rhian Allyson Y. Dy, Renz Keane T. Go, Shannon A. Sia, and Sachie Cyane M. Tiu all won merit awards.
