Candy Joy C. Tan, a grade four student of CKSC, was crowned Champion in the Read-Along Storytelling Competition organized by the Philippine Daily Inquirer last November 13 at the main lobby of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. This annual competition aims to promote book-based storytelling that stimulates students’ appreciation and interest in reading. This year’s competition is a tribute to Andres Bonifacio in celebration of his 150th birth anniversary. Hence, the story of “Ang Supremo at Ang Kuweba” written by April Jade Biglaen, was the chosen piece for all the finalists.

From the original 70 contestants from schools nationwide, 12 semi-finalists were selected and they were further trimmed down on November 9 to the final 5 storytellers. Fortunately, Candy made it to the top five and during the final showdown last November 13, Candy captivated the judges’ hearts and brought home the most coveted crown, a sash, a “Guyito (PDI’s mascot)” stuffed toy, and a cash prize of ten thousand pesos. Her mentors, Ms. Jocelyn P. Calugay and Ms. Ailene F. de Leon,  each received one thousand gift certificate from Landmark.

Team CKSC, composed of fourth year students Hans Jarett Ong, Nicholas Timothy Ang, and Chinarah Agatha Tayamora, also bagged 3rd Place in IMPACT 2013: 1st Inter-High Math and Physics Competition last November 23 at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.  Sponsored by the UP Circle of Engineering Students (UP CREST), the competition was divided into three parts:  the elimination round with 20 teams from 11 high schools in Metro Manila, Laguna, and Bulacan competing, the semi-final round with only the top 15 teams, and the final round with only the top 5 teams in contention. Team CKSC topped the semi-final round, winning a cash prize of PhP3000, bronze medals, and certificates.  Another team from CKSC composed of Gabriel Sedrick Alkuino, Renzo Roel Tan, and Kim Justine Hung ranked 2nd in the semi-finals and 4th in the final round.  Both teams were trained by Mrs. Cynthia Yap for Physics and Mrs. Armi Mogro for Mathematics.
